Uptown Funk Tee

Today I’m posting for the Sew In Tune series. It’s hosted by Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy! and Melly Sews. It’s a week filled with outfits inspired by music. I always love to see what everyone creates…such varied inspiration!

I had no trouble picking a song. Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars is Roman’s favourite song and we have to listen to it several times a day. He loves to have dance parties in the living room. He jumps around and dances and likes to play guitar with a foam hand from the baseball.

Roman’s favourite colour is yellow so I bought this yellow tank top from the op shop a while back planning to upcycle it into something for him. It worked perfectly for the Rowan Tee. I made use of the hems already on the top which made this a quick sew. I used the sleeves leftover from a previous upcycle and some fabric paint to finish it off.

This was my first time using freezer paper for stenciling and I love it! It gives such neat crisp lines and I will definitely be using it again. I cut the stencil out with a craft knife, which took some time! It was one of the few projects that made me wish I had a digital cutter. I think the line ‘Don’t believe me just watch’ is pretty appropriate for a 4 year old… They are always coming out with new tricks.

I’m a huge fan of Pebeo fabric paint. I’ve used it in a couple of projects before (here and here) and I find it lasts really well. I haven’t noticed any fading with it. I happened to have this blue in my stash which was a perfect match to the sleeves on the tee.

This top has become a favourite and every day Roman asks if he can wear it. He gets pretty disappointed when it’s in the wash.

We’ve watched the video clip together a few times and yesterday Roman decided he wants a pink blazer like Bruno wears in the clip…hmmm, I wish he had asked a bit earlier, I think he would rock a pink blazer! So for now, the tshirt will have to do!

Roman was pretty excited when I handed him a pair of new shoes and told him they were ‘chucks’ just like in the song.

Patterns Used:
Rowan Tee – This is the second one of these I’ve made and it’s such a great staple pattern to have. One of these days I need to try out another variation that comes with the pattern.

Small Fry Skinny Jeans – This is another pattern by Titchy Threads. I love the skinny fit of them. I made these almost a year ago and they are a lot shorter on Roman now…I guess he does grow after all!

That’s a wrap!
